Best Early-Career Abstract Awards

Seven awards of £2,000 each (increased from three £500 grants) will be awarded to early career lead authors of the best submitted abstracts submitted to PVRI 2027. As well as the £2,000 Rupert Swift Award, and the Butrous Foundation Young Investigator Award

During abstract submission, you’ll be able to indicate whether you would like your abstract to be considered for eligible awards. All submitted abstracts may be considered for an oral presentation in the main Congress programme.

Abstract Guidelines

Please read the full abstract guidelines, terms and conditions below before submitting. Key points:

  • NB: You must have an active PVRI membership to submit an abstract. To ensure our membership is accessible to the widest possible global community, our fees are discounted for early-career professionals and those in LMICs. Not a member? Become a member today.
  • Abstracts must be submitted in English through the PVRI 2027 abstract portal
  • Abstract titles can be up to 50 words
  • Abstracts must be no more than 300 words
  • Figures and tables are not allowed
  • All authors and affiliations must be added in full, in English
  • The abstract title, authors, and affiliations are not included in the word count
  • There is no fee to submit, but you must have an active PVRI membership
  • You’ll be asked whether you want your abstract to be considered for an award
  • The text version of accepted abstracts will be published, with your permission, in Pulmonary Circulation
  • All correspondence will be sent to the submitting author
  • The organisers may amend your category during the review process
     

Late-breaking abstracts

Late-breaking abstracts should be expected to substantially advance the diagnosis, management, or understanding of PH. They should report highly impactful, novel findings that became available after the main abstract submission deadline. Priority will be given to presentations of:

  • major clinical trials
  • landmark registry analyses
  • transformative translational discoveries
  • emerging technologies with immediate clinical relevance

To ensure our membership is accessible to the widest possible global community, our fees are discounted for early-career professionals and those in LMICs. To improve accessibility even further, we have recently reduced the LMIC early career fee from $50 to $15 a year.

You’ll need to submit your abstract through the PVRI 2027 abstract portal. You’ll be asked to create an account before submitting.

Yes. During abstract submission, you’ll be able to indicate whether you would like your abstract to be considered for eligible awards. Please note late-breaking abstracts will not be considered for awards.

Yes, some award winners will be invited to give oral presentations in the main Congress programme.

Poster presentations will take place across all three days of the Congress, with a sponsored ‘vote for the best poster’ and a daily winner announced each day.

All emails will be sent to the submitting author. They are responsible for sharing updates with co-authors.

Yes. You can edit your abstract until the closing date by logging back into the abstract portal.

Please contact us if you need to withdraw your abstract after submission.

PVRI defines 'early career' as a person who is 

  • within 10 years of completing their terminal research training (e.g. PhD, MD), excluding any periods of recognised leave (e.g. parental leave, illness, clinical or caring responsibilities)
  • does not currently hold a tenured or senior academic position
  • and has not received major independent, non-mentored research funding (e.g. grants > $100,000 USD or equivalent)
