Pulmonary Circulation

We strive to be your first choice for publication

Pulmonary Circulation is PVRI's premier international, peer-reviewed medical research journal dedicated exclusively to pulmonary circulation and Pulmonary Vascular Disease (PVD).

Pulmonary Circulation is a platform for original research articles, review articles, case reports, guidelines, and consensus statements. It showcases ground-breaking discoveries in basic, translational, and clinical research on lung vascular biology, PVD, lung injury, and right heart failure. It is a forum for scientific discussion and debate between clinicians and researchers worldwide. Access to up-to-date information is crucial, particularly in the under-explored realm of PVD, so we are committed to advancing knowledge and fostering collaboration.

By bringing together diverse research, techniques, and case studies, we aim to enhance patient care and treatment outcomes. We recognise the importance of reaching colleagues in all corners of the globe, including those in less developed countries. That's why all articles published in Pulmonary Circulation are fully open access, ensuring free and unrestricted access to valuable research. With rapid publication turnaround times and availability on PubMed, our journal has become a trusted resource for clinicians worldwide.

Join us in the ongoing scientific discussion and debate as we work towards a future in which Pulmonary Hypertension (PH) and PVDs are better understood and more effectively treated.

Our journal is published in partnership with Wiley Online Library. Read our Author Guidelines for more information on how to submit your article to the journal.

Editors-in-Chief

Dr Anna Hemnes is a translational physician-scientist researching altered metabolism in pulmonary vascular disease. Her research focuses on the effect of BMPR2 mutation on insulin-mediated intracellular signalling in the pulmonary vasculature and right ventricle, and the genetic susceptibility to insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome in human pulmonary vascular disease. Her work has led to the development of an Omic signature of vasodilator-responsive pulmonary arterial hypertension, and she is actively researching novel blood-based Omic predictive strategies for FDA-approved therapies for pulmonary arterial hypertension. Dr Hemnes sees patients at the Vanderbilt Center for Pulmonary Vascular Disease and serves as the Director of Research for the Division of Allergy, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Jason Yuan is a Professor of Medicine at the University of California, USA. He is also the Director of the Section of Physiology in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine at the UCSD School of Medicine. Dr Yuan received his medical degree at Suzhou Medical College (China), his PhD at Peking Union Medical College (China), and his postdoctoral training at the University of Maryland at Baltimore. His Pulmonary Vascular Disease (PVD) research propels the field on the pathogenic roles of membrane receptors and ion channels and provides a new research direction for developing therapeutic approaches for the disease. Dr Yuan is currently Associate Editor of the American Journal of Physiology Cell Physiology and serves on the editorial boards of Circulation Research, American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, and American Journal of Physiology Lung Cellular and Molecular Physiology.

Deputy Editors

Dr Stenmark is a renowned Professor of Paediatrics and Medicine, serving as Division Head and La Cache Endowed Chair of Paediatric Critical Care. He has published close to 400 papers related to pulmonary hypertension and has conducted studies on PH across various species, including bovine. Dr Stenmark has served on several national and international committees, played a significant role in planning international meetings on PH, and presently serves as the Director of the Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Research Laboratories at the University of Colorado. He is also the Deputy Editor of Pulmonary Circulation and an Associate Editor of Cardiovascular Research. Dr Stenmark is an Elected Member of the Association of American Physicians and was recently awarded the Dickinson W. Richards Lecture Award by the American Heart Association.

Irene Lang is a senior staff member at the Department of Cardiology and Deputy Chair of the Department at the Medical University of Vienna, Vienna, Austria. She has been a Professor of Vascular Biology at the Medical University of Vienna since 2004, where she leads a clinical and experimental group in vascular medicine focusing on pulmonary vascular biology and right ventricular function. Dr. Lang is an active interventional and structural cardiologist, recently very active as a balloon pulmonary angioplasty interventionist, and an active researcher. She was nominated by the World Medical Association as a ‘Caring Physician of the World’ in 2006, ‘Teacher of the Year’ at MUV in 2013 and is past president of the Austrian Society of Cardiology.
