Central Asia Task Force
The Central Asia Task Force, established in 2014, works to strengthen pulmonary hypertension care, research, and collaboration across Central Asia, with a focus on capacity-building, equitable access to care, and regionally relevant clinical and research priorities.
The Central Asia Task Force aims to:
- improve capacity and expertise among PH healthcare providers across Central Asia
- encourage collaborative PH research through scientific publications, national and regional PH registries, and integration into the PVRI research network
- support the development and sustainability of PH patient associations
- develop, adapt, and implement evidence-based PH clinical guidelines, in collaboration with PVRI, tailored to Central Asian and other low- and middle-income (LMIC) countries contexts
- support equitable access to PH care, including advocacy or the inclusion of essential PH medicines in national essential medicines lists
- advance consensus on non-invasive PH diagnostic pathways appropriate to regional healthcare settings.
Recent activities
In 2025 the Central Asia Task Force has:
- collaborated with the High-Altitude Task Force to align research efforts on high-altitude–related PH
- supported PH service development through the establishment of PH centres and expansion of regional PH registries
- increased regional visibility of PH care, including awareness of treatment availability; and supported the 3rd International High-Altitude Medicine and Research Symposium in Naryn, Kyrgyzstan (September 2024).
In 2026, the Task Force aims to:
- convene their regular meetings with participation from additional PH global experts to strengthen collaboration, knowledge exchange, and regional capacity building
- integrate with other PVRI opportunities, including exploring a stronger role for the Task Force at the PVRI 2027 Congress, and aligning outputs with PVRI’s global strategy
- expand cross-regional collaboration, connecting with the India and LATAM Task Forces to share learning on LMIC-adapted guidelines; and contribute expertise to the 2nd International Mountains Summit in Bishkek (October 2027), supported by the United Nations.

Interested in accessing global data on PH patient experience?
Almost 4,000 patients and carers across 85 countries completed Phase 1 of our PH Global Patient Survey (PHGPS). Questions across all PH groups included diagnostic tests & timelines, genetic testing, treatments, financial burdens, hospital visits, research participation, quality of life, telemedicine, patient-reported outcome measures, and self-monitoring with digital technology. The findings have the potential to improve patient care, guide future research and help us address unmet needs.
