Southeast Asia Task Force

Southeast Asia

The Southeast Asia Task Force was re-established in September 2026 to strengthen collaboration across the region and support locally led efforts to improve pulmonary hypertension (PH) care, research, education, and advocacy.

Bringing together clinicians, researchers, allied health professionals, and patient advocates, the Task Force provides a platform for sharing knowledge, identifying regional priorities, and fostering partnerships that can advance PH care across the region.

Our previous Southeast Asia Task Force concluded in 2021 — before considering its relaunch, in May 2026, PVRI surveyed PH stakeholders across the region to understand their current needs and priorities and those insights highlighted strong support for renewed collaboration and helped inform the relaunch of the Task Force.

The relaunch of the Task Force aligns with our annual Congress in Bangkok in 2027, creating an opportunity to build lasting regional connections and ensure future activities are informed by the needs and priorities of the Southeast Asian PH community.

Objectives

The Task Force aims to:

  • strengthen collaboration and knowledge exchange between PH clinicians, researchers, patient organisations, and other stakeholders across Southeast Asia
  • identify regional challenges, priorities, and opportunities to improve PH diagnosis, treatment, and patient outcomes
  • support the development of regional and national guidelines, registries, and data-sharing opportunities
  • create a lasting regional network that continues to grow beyond PVRI 2027 in Bangkok

Current activities

  • Southeast Asia PH landscape survey
The Task Force conducted its first regional mapping to better understand the current PH landscape, identify unmet needs, and gather perspectives from clinicians and stakeholders across the region. The findings are helping to shape future priorities and work plans.

  • Regional stakeholder engagement
The Task Force has convened its inaugural meeting and continues to engage stakeholders across the region to strengthen networks, encourage collaboration, and identify opportunities for collective action, while advancing understanding of the PH landscape in each country.

Looking ahead

The group will be holding its first in-person meeting at PVRI 2027 in Bangkok, providing an opportunity to bring regional stakeholders together, discuss findings from the PH landscape survey, and agree shared priorities. The meeting will aim to translate these discussions into a co-produced practical roadmap for regional collaboration.
