Lewis Rubin

Lewis J. Rubin, MD, is Emeritus Professor of Medicine at the University of California, San Diego, and a leading authority in pulmonary hypertension. A graduate of Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Dr. Rubin completed his residency and fellowship at Duke University Hospital before joining UCSD, where he served as Director of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine.Dr. Rubin has authored over 350 scientific publications, many of which have transformed clinical care for pulmonary hypertension. His groundbreaking work on therapies such as epoprostenol, bosentan, sildenafil, and macitentan laid the foundation for modern treatment strategies. He played a pivotal role in several landmark clinical trials and helped define global standards for managing the disease.A founding figure in the World Symposium on Pulmonary Hypertension, Dr. Rubin co established the WSPH Association and contributed to major updates in disease classification and treatment guidelines. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, American Heart Association, and Royal College of Physicians, and was elected to the American Society for Clinical Investigation. Though retired from clinical practice, Dr. Rubin remains active in research and publishing, continuing to shape the future of pulmonary vascular medicine through evidence-based insights and international collaboration.
