From Patient Voices to Action: Understanding the PH Global Survey

Telehealth utilization increased during the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, which encouraged remote patient management. The identification of optimal strategies to enhance telehealth and address barriers to its use for patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) may improve patient outcomes. 

Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a rare, complex disease affecting both children and adults. Efforts to provide health education are imperative as health literacy impacts patient and caregiver capacity to acquire, process, and understand health information and make informed health decisions. 

My first clinical experience with Pulmonary Hypertension occurred when, as a resident at Duke University Hospital in the late 1970's, a patient with “primary pulmonary hypertension (PPH)” was admitted with right heart failure.

Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a chronic progressive exacerbation of cardiopulmonary vascular disease. The patients' exercise endurance decreased progressively and the survival rate was low. Current basic therapy and targeted drug therapy can improve the quality of life (QoL) of PAH patients, but the long-term efficacy and prognosis are not good.
