PVRI 2025 Rio: Embracing Heterogeneity

The 2025 PVRI International Conference took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 29 January to 1 February 2025, under the motto “Embracing Heterogeneity”. Within four days, the heterogeneity of pulmonary hypertension (PH) was discussed from basic to translational and clinical research. Speakers comprehensively reviewed updates in our understanding of PH across the lifespan, including experts in both paediatric and adult disease, representing 25 countries from 5 continents.
The days were compartmentalised into specific topics evolving around PH, allowing a tight exchange between experts. Focusing on varying presentations of PH and risk stratification, the heterogeneity of PH related to both heart and lung disease and linking this knowledge to establish innovative ways to improve outcomes both in new therapies and clinical trials generated incredible momentum and excitement from the scientific community.
This year, the meeting took special care to highlight the effort of the next generation of researchers by providing a platform to early-career scientists to speak in every session and hosting the inaugural Career Catalyst Luncheon where junior researchers had the opportunity to meet with senior scientists from around the world. The PVRI again hosted the Women in PH Luncheon, another successful annual event that allowed focus on the unique challenges women in our field experience and providing an opportunity to build community.
The energy and excitement among the attendees was palpable throughout the meeting and generated wonderful discussion, new collaborations and new directions. We look forward to another year of successful science that is focused on improving the lives of the people living with PH.
Thank you to the PVRI 2025 Scientific Organising Committee.
