PVRI recognises and celebrates World Pulmonary Hypertension (PH) Day: 5 May 2023

3 May 2023

In recognising and celebrating World PH Day, the PVRI wishes to emphasise its commitment to improving the lives of patients across the globe who suffer from this serious life-threatening condition. The reach from PVRI is to all parts of the world including high, middle and low income countries.

The PVRI provides a forum for the world’s top medical scientists and physicians to come together, encouraging collaboration and discussion of both novel research findings and new aspects of clinical care for the benefit of patients and their families.

The PVRI is about to engage directly with patients and their carers via the launch of its global patient engagement survey, which for the first time will seek information directly from patients about what is most important to them, about their problems and their impressions of the care they have experienced - including barriers to that care. The PVRI is also undertaking a survey of the current status of access to and provision of care globally from service providers in order to try and fully understand the situation in different countries.

The PVRI is aware from smaller national surveys that delays in recognising that PH is the cause of severe worsening symptoms of breathlessness, chest pain and syncope leads to delays in commencing appropriate effective therapy, and this is a major concern for patients globally. Reducing the time to diagnosis from first symptoms for patients and improving the effectiveness of therapy thus remain a key element of PVRI’s mission.
