Living Legends: Paul Corris, Newcastle University

Professor Paul A. Corris is an Associate Fellow, Green Templeton College, University of Oxford. He was previously a Teaching Associate

Paul is Emeritus Professor of Thoracic Medicine and a graduate of University College and Westminster Medical School London.

He is recognised for the significant role he undertook developing clinical lung transplantation globally and establishing the UK National Service for patients with Pulmonary Hypertension, via his clinical and research expertise. He was responsible for developing the academic centre for Respiratory Medicine in Newcastle in the Institute of Translational and Clinical Research.

Paul has provided supervision, training and mentorship for many young physicians throughout the world. Known for his integrity, leadership and clarity in communication, he is the recipient of numerous awards including the British Thoracic Society’s (BTS) highest award the BTS Medal, the Pulmonary Vascular Research Institute’s (PVRI) and European Respiratory Society’s (ERS) lifetime achievement awards and the Fellowship award of the ERS.

He is a Senior Fellow of the Association of Physicians. He is a past President of the British Thoracic Society, The International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation and the PVRI and is currently the chairman of this latter scientific institute. He enjoys sport and is a keen cyclist and member of Chinnor Rugby Club.
